Mortgage Fraud in South Carolina


 The State of South Carolina has relaunched its mortgage fraud hotline after closing due to a lack of funding. The hotline received hundreds of telephone calls related to mortgage fraud in South Carolina. The United States Attorney for South Carolina is in charge of prosecuting many of these fraud cases. There are several South Carolina Attorneys that defend these types of criminal indictments. Many times the amount of prison exposure for a particular defendant will be based on the amount of intended loss related to the fraudulent scheme. The investigation into mortgage fraud is usually conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Russian Spies Arrested

 The Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) has arrested 11 people in four different states on spying charges. They are all Russian nationals and are alleged to have been directed by the S.V.R., which is the successor agency to the K.G.B.. The 11 people were alleged to have been directed to gather information on nuclear weapons, federal politics and policy, and other advanced research. The defendants have not been charged with espionage and from most reports it is unclear as to what the exact spying activities are being charged. Lawyer office in US . 4th Circuit Upholds Dismissal in Wrongful Death Case

 In an unpublished opinion, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals recently upheld a wrongful death case coming from the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina at Charleston. According to the statement of facts, a man walked into a grocery store and threatened the store employees with a knife, took a ham and left the facility. Lawyer office in US . The police stopped the man outside of the store and he refused to drop the knife. The police used pepper spray and batons in an attempt to stop him, and eventually shot him because he would not drop his weapon. Personal representatives of the decedent brought a claim against local law enforcement for wrongful death, survival and loss of consortium. Specifically, the plaintiff argued that the police officr's use of deadly force constituted a Fourth Amendment violation.
